Ghassan F. Khayyat, MD, FACS
Dr. Khayyat is a Board Certified Neurosurgeon who began his practice of Neurological Surgery in the Akron area in 1976 when he brought with him operative procedures not available then in the Akron Hospitals, including microscopic surgery for a variety of conditions like pituitary tumors, aneurysms, trigeminal neuralgia, and other brain tumors. Along with that and the many common neurosurgical operations on the brain for stroke and traumatic injuries as well as spinal conditions requiring surgery like disc and degenerative problems, he has performed about 10,000 operations. He joined the Center for Neuro and Spine Inc. in 2003 where he continues his practice Neurosurgery with special emphsis on Gamma Knife Radiosurgery for brain tumors, vascular malformations of the brain, pituitary tumors, facial pain and tremor.
After graduating from the American University of Beirut Medical Center in 1969, Dr. Khayyat was a Resident in General Surgery at that Center following which he had Residency training in Neurosurgery and in Neurology at the University of New York in Syracuse and the University of Rochester in New York completing his training as a Chief Resident in his sixth year of the Program. After that he pursued a Fellowship in Microvascular aneurysm surgery at the University of Western Ontario in London, Canada under the Professorship of the world known late Master Neurosurgeon, Dr. Charles G. Drake in 1976. Dr. Khayyat then accepted an appointment as a Neurosurgeon in the Akron area hospitals, Akron City Hospital ( Summa ), Akron General Hospital ( Cleveland Clinic ), Children's Hospital, St. Thomas Hospital and over the years established a wide practice in the Greater Akron Region, serving as Chief of Neurosurgery for many years in the area Hospitals.
Currently Dr. Khayyat is Associate Professor of Neurosurgery at the Northeastern Ohio College of Medicine and he is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, International College of Surgeons, Leksell Gamma Knife Society, Neurotrauma National Society, and Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
